final thoughts
I really enjoyed taking this 3D design class because the 3rd dimension is something I have not explored much in the aspect of art. I think the installations we made and researched were amazing and extremely interesting. I personally liked created the final project installation with Tino of the life size Mario. I think this was a very hands on project and looked nice when we finished it. I think it was a fun installation to look at and was able to draw peoples attention. I also enjoyed learning and exploring the world of projection. During this semester I was able to discover some amazing way to use the project as an installation of art.
Final installation
For the final installation that was displayed in Babbio, Tino and I created a 3D display of the original 8 byte Mario. We were able to do this by using 150 three-inch cardboard boxes. The idea of the installation was to bring the original video game character in his original form to the 3D modern world. With this installation we were able to connect the original 8byte Mario to the present and see how video games have transformed from what they used to be.
In order to do this we started with cardboard boxes that were to be folded and painted.

Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol is an American artist who sis best known for his pop art. He was able to find a connection between illustration, celebrity culture and advertisements. In the 1960’s is when Warhol’s pop art flourished as he is known for his iconic paintings of popular American objects. His illustrations ranged from celebrities to a Campell’s soup can. Through his illustrations he was able to capture iconic images of the culture and media of the time period. Some of his most well known works include Campbell's Soup I (1968) and Marilyn Monroe.

Hans Hofmann
Hans Hofmann was an
abstract expressionist painter. His works all included a lot of colors and are
very distinguishable. His works all feature spatial illusion and interesting
color relationships. He incessantly probed natural
elements, focusing on volume, and geometric forms in positive and negative
spaces.

Frank Lloyd Wright
-->
I find Frank Lloyd Wright's home, Taliesin West one of his
most interesting designs. His angled walls are intriguing and his house mostly
interests me because it is so close to the ground yet not uncomfortable to live
in. His scale of his buildings are completely different than what other
architects tend to use. Frank Lloyd Wright has been a major
influence on this century’s love affair with modernism. He focused on “form
follows function” meaning the design should be built for its purpose and used
few materials. Modern architects followed this clarity of forms to rid of any
unnecessary detail and focus on simplicity. Although these buildings tend to be
simple, they are still showing visual expression of the structure. Often, these
buildings used more natural light than had been seen before. Also, he
emphasized the use of rectangular shapes and vertical and horizontal lines in
their structures.
Walter Benjamin Response
How does he connect Art and Technology and Mass production
of the Image?
Walter Benjamin found new technology in the art field fascinating. With the advances of the lithograph and then film, Benjamin uncovered an entirely new way to display art and a new technique. He found that with the new technology he could change how many people could now see the art with the use of mass production. Important works of art used to be only viewed by the wealthy in a museum for a limited amount of time. However, with mass production of the image Walter created completely accessible art by many people, this of course also created a completely different type of audience viewing and critiquing the work.

Light projections Continued
As we continued with our experimenting we began to play different youtube videos and continued to use the silver reflective paper. We lined a box with the reflective paper and then used it to project these videos onto the white board. As we found more interesting colorful video to play the projections became more and more interesting.

Light projections
-->
Light Projection
In this assignment we were experimenting with the
projection of light on different surfaces and materials. This was my first
experience with using the projection in the art world and I really enjoyed it. It
is amazing how realistic it can look or how the projection displays so
differently on different materials. This is a few of our first projections. We used a projector and reflected it off shiny silver paper and then onto a white board.
Boxes/ Packaging Part II
This is another box I created focusing more on the design aspect of the box. I was able to experiment the design of this box with paint and continued my theme of the eye on my last box. On this box I painted abstract features of the face on each side. I think it came out really well and will display this box in my apt.
Boxes/ Packaging 1
This was one of our first assignments for 3D design. We
were to create a box or some type of shape out of the paper we had in the room.
With this said we were all challenged to create something different and design
the box on the outside or however we wanted. I created a small box with an eye
displayed where the box folded and came together. I had to draw the eye in
separate pieces so that when folded together it looked realistic and not
distorted. This was a fun introduction to 3D designing.

Design
I created this design using photographs I had taken last semester. I photographed the color patterns made in bubbles when light is shined on them. I just the color pattern out of one of my photographs and combined it to make a patten/new design.

Homework Assignment
This poster demonstrates the different and up and coming views of women during World War I and World War II. This poster was an American wartime propaganda poster created in 1942 however it was rediscovered in the 1980's. This poster has bright colors and clear large font. This poster inspires women empowerment and it is assumed that it was used to inspire women workers to join the war effort.
This poster from World War I is a Soviet photomontage from 1936. This poster shows many Soviet people, workers etc but above all of them taking of the poster is a large human figure, Joseph Stalin. The photomontage was popular in Russia and Europe during WWI. The method of photomontage is the process and result of making a composite photograph by cutting and joining other photographs.
This is a 1850's Japan poster which was created after Japan's borders opened for the first time since 1637. These prints were exported and said to have inspired the graphs of many famous artists including Van Gogh. These posters were used as advertisements for all different things like theater and teahouse girls. These Ukiyo-e paintings featured the traditions elements of emaki and decorative design.
This is an advertisement poster from 1906 designed by Lucien Bernhard. The original advertisement featured an entire scenario with a table and matches with smoke that transformed into a beautiful women. However, the scenario was distracting the consumer. When looking at the advertisement the viewer focuses on many other things other than the matches. So Lucien Bernhard reduced the design to a more realist focus, only featuring the name and the matches.
This is a Belgium poster from designer Privat-Livemont in 1889. The design of the poster combined the romance of the Pre-Raphaelites and the sensuous style of Art Nouveau along with some of the styles from the Ukiyo-e prints. The colors of this poster are similar to those of the Ukiyo-e prints. This poster is said to be exploiting the woman because of the size of the advertising the Casino de Cabourg. Also, her costume, her "companions" are said to be exploiting women.

Pattern
This was a pattern I created on Photoshop using pentagons. I want to keep editing this and possibly change the white background to a different color.

Map
This was our map assignment, I really liked how this one came out. I filled each state with the different license plates of the state. I used multiple license plates for each state.
Movie Poster
This was the horror movie poster assignment. I created this in photoshop using different distortion tools.
Art Tech Logo
This is my design for the logo for Art and Technology. This was one of my favorite assignments because I liked how the final project came out. I changed the color a few times but left it green when painting it on the wall.
